JabberDucky from Duck Foot. Received on 21/2/21, cost $ 8.17 (Including shipping) for a 16 oz can ($ 0.510/oz) from Craftshack, San Diego, CA. Stored at home at 42 degrees. Reviewed 3/3/21. Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Undated can. Served at 46.9 degrees in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. Final temperature 53.4 degrees.
Appearance – 4.
First pour – Pale Straw (SRM 2), clear.
Body – Pale Gold (SRM 4), hazy. When rear-lite, same, with marked effervescence.
Head – Large (Maximum four cm, aggressive center pour), ghost white, medium density, average retention, leaving an eight to twelve mm ragged crown fed by effervescence, and a rocky complete cap. Tiny chunks of lacing are scattered on the sides as the head retracts. Second pour produces a 1.2 cm head.
Lacing – Good. Medium band of tiny to medium bubbles with a jagged upper edge and multiple stalactites of varying size.
Aroma – 3 – Begins a bit musty, no malt, no yeast. Very weak at the end.
Flavor – 2.5 – Begins slightly bitter with a cleaning chemical taste, no citrus, no peach. No malt, no yeast. No alcohol (6.5 % ABV, as marked on container) taste or aroma. No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl. Ends moderately bitter and soapy with a horribly long hang time.
Palate – 4 – Medium, watery, soft but lively carbonation.
Final impression and summation: 3.5 (After deducting 0.25 points for undated container) Looks and feels good, meh aroma and nasty taste. I’ve had reduced gluten/gluten-free beers previously, but none have ever had this soapy/cleaning chemical taste. Off to the drain.
