April 29th, 2015 - Concluding our tasters for today at South Park Brewing is the Scripps Pier Oyster Stout. Dark and opaque, my phone reacts by automatically turning on its flash. I am left with a black rock in a glass, like a still and very dark soy sauce. The aroma is dark and malty with heavy, meaty char. The palate - again - fails to complement the flavor with its thinness. But I do like the salinity in the flavor, paired with some dark chocolate notes and a general mellowness that acts as a nice cool down from the previous IPAs of the day.
