Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Stout - infused with 100% cocoa nibs and fresh roasted Bolivian coffee beans. Flaked Oats are added to lend a velvety mouthfeel. The beer was then aged in a freshly dumped bourbon barrel for 6 months. Rich dark chocolate, fresh roasted coffee, bourbon, vanilla, dried fruit, toffee, caramel and vinous notes.

On my second visit to Blue Earl in Delaware, I was lucky enough to stumble upon (pricey but delicious) bottles of BA Dark Star. This is their coffee-and-cocoa-infused Imperial Breakfast Stout aged in bourbon barrels for six months. I was surprised at how good this was- plenty of bourbon, booze, chocolate, coffee and sweetness... but all very well integrated, happily mingling together in one delicious brew.

BA Dark Star gives The Bruery's big stouts a run for their money, out of small town Delaware. Well done!

Growler into pint glass. Pours an inky, viscous black with a thin tan head. Initial impression is dark chocolate, black coffee, bourbon, roasted malts, peppery hops, and maybe a touch of vanilla. Mouthfeel is silky smooth; carbonation is very light. Noticeable alcohol heat, but not unpleasant. Finish is slightly bitter. My first brew from Blue Earl, and I'm impressed.
