330ml bottle from Bacchanalia, Mill Road, Cambridge £7.50.
Imperial Stout, Contains: Lactose.
L- Pours black, with ultra-dark 3mm dark tan cap of micro-bubbles. At 11% any foam cap is impressive. That recedes to a peripheral ring of bubbles but it holds well.
S- Super deep roasty-toasty, hints of smoke and charring.
T- Slow to build towards the big profile (nice). Then big + pungent, much charring, light smoke. Much dark cocoa with pungent liquor-ish edge. Some lactosem creamy richness (restrained). My beer is chilled, it's far away from the richness risking veering to sweetness (yet). Coffee now builds a touch as it warms a bit, versus cocoa.
F - Mega deep liquor-ish stout. The liquor note notably builds as it warms a touch but never is in-your-face/OTT. Zinging at the back of my throat. Certainly rich but does not become sweet etc.
O - It's massive. It's a big, deep, liquorish winter warmer of a slow-sippin' boutique stout. *Very* polished, zero out of place or to offend. Rich liquorish deep-stout a cocoa-coffee are the prominent features. A shot of lactose rounds off this beast without being too loud. An occasional treat/beast. Perhaps too OTT for a regular tipple.

Black color with tan head, aroma of coffe, chocolate and roasted malts, madium plus sweetness, lightly bitter aftertaste, medium body, soft carbonation.

All right imperial stout brewed with lactose, coffee and cocoa. Nice coffee presence. The lactose is a bit much there for my taste but it brings balance to this roasted brew. Not my favourite from this brewery but worth a try
