I sampled this brew at RCBC only 10 hours after it was put on tap for the season. I also snagged a growler and sampled at home.
Appearance: This was a beautifully deep, brown-red beer with a nice white head. It left a tremendous amount of lace on the side of the glass.
Smell: A deep, malty smell combined with a nice hop bite. There was some sweetness to the malt aroma, but it was not overpowering.
Mouthfeel: Fairly smooth with a medium to full body. Very nice.
Taste: This beer had a deep, almost what I would describe as rich, malt flavor. It was very full and satisfying. The Cascade and Hallertau hops (according to the brewer) then emerged, providing a nice kick on the finish.
SECOND TASTING: I had this beer later in the season and did not enjoy it as much as I did the first time. This pint had a very strong sweet banana flavor that covered up everything else. I have lowered the rating accordingly, splitting the difference between the two tastings.
