Miramar, a place where the roar of fighter jets is as constant as the hum of fermentation tanks. A landscape of warehouses and forgotten ventures, the kind of place where half the buildings are churning out military contracts, and the other half are locked up tight, only opening once a month for reasons best left unspoken. This is Beeramar, where you can drink with your ears ringing from the Sound of Freedom™—the local term for deafening multimillion-dollar death machines carving the sky above.

Navigating to Division 23 is like solving a puzzle designed by a man with no grasp of Euclidean geometry. Five lefts, a hard right, a near miss with an unmarked van that may or may not be an FBI stakeout—keep going. Eventually, a nondescript overhang appears, a battered tent out front still holding onto last season’s rain like a bad memory. This is the place.

Step inside and the sensory overload fades into something simpler. Bar to the left, the steady hum of conversation, and farther in, a spread of games for those still clinging to that last shred of innocent joy. The bar itself? A war-torn relic covered in stickers from across the hoppy wasteland. Someone here is well-traveled, another soldier on the IPA frontlines, a kindred spirit in the war against sobriety.

The menu is a testament to the city’s beer roots—San Diego IPA territory. But there’s more. A lineup of crisp lagers, a sign that someone in the back knows their craft well enough to embrace the delicate and the bold alike. Start light, then step into the resin-drenched abyss of a West Coast IPA. The friendly bartender pours with an easy rhythm, like she’s seen a thousand weary travelers before. She knows why you’re here.

Time loses meaning, as it always does in places like this. Was it an hour? Three? Long enough for the outside world to blur at the edges. Eventually, you emerge, slightly less steady, blinking against the brutal sun. Overhead, another jet rips through the sky, shaking the bones of the city. But the real freedom isn’t up there—it’s in the temporary escape, the cold glass in hand, the laughter in a dimly lit room. Until next time.

Small brewery hidden at the back of a industrial park. L-shaped bar to the left of the entrance seats about a dozen with a few table in the back with a shuffle board and ping pong table. Place has a club house vibe. 8 beers on tap, the 2 I had were solid. Friendly bartender,
