The color is just a tad lighter than the typical black coffee brown found in most porters and stouts. Still, it's a bit darker than the ordinary cola soda. An abundant biege head quickly faded and left virtually no glass lacing. Kind of weirdly, it smells like there's coffee within, but it's not listed. The roasted malt is a bouquet for the nose, with the added spices only augmenting the experience. Well, that's where the compliments end. This is terribly thin for a porter. Unsuspectingly, there's no malty body to carry the flavors. The nose lied. No mincing words, this is just not a good porter. The lack of a solid roasted malt backbone makes the spicing seem stark and astringent. This certainly needs work to even become drinkable.
