Got this from the IGA in Sutton, Quebec while on holiday this past summer
From a 473ml can into a pint glass
Hops: Citra, Fantasia, Azacca and Hull Melon
Brewed with vanilla and lactose
APPEARANCE: Pours a two finger, looser, foamy white head with very good retention. Clear amber yellow in color with medium carbonation. Head slowly fades to a solid wisp. A full wisp remains til the end leaving lots of good lacing on the glass.
SMELL: Citrus aromas with lemon, grapefruit, some honeydew melon, caramel notes and some spicy yeast qualities. Some off green apple phenols as well.
TASTE: Lemon and lime flavors, some caramel and honeydew melon up front. Some spicy and green fruit phenols at the finish, moving into a bold finish of lemon citrus, some melon sweetness, as well as some spicy yeast as well. Quite yeasty and phenolic.
PALATE: Medium body and medium carbonation. Semi-creamy on the palate, a bit light as well, goes down fine and finishes a bit dry.
OVERALL: Spicy with Belgian yeast here, which doesn’t quite work with this style. It gives off way more phenols than is useful, which ends up replacing the tropical hop qualities with phenolic green fruit yeast flavors. Definitely a clash. Fun to try but not quite satisfying.
This is a lovely beer - a bit of haze, lots of fruit, and a very nice mouthfeel. The smell is very subtle, with some barely perceptible fruit. The malt and hops mix nicely to create an extremely refreshing beer. After a busy day at work, this hits the spot perfectly on a beautiful May afternoon.
A: Pours a really hazy hay yellow type of color with a pure white head. Solid retention, good lacing. A good representation visually of the style.
S: The smell is very light but what there is fantastic. There is a ton of pineapples, mangoes and clementines in this. There is light amount of resinous notes. Light sweetness. Simple, to the point, as a good IPA should.
T: Taste is a bit light too and not as fruity as the smell indicate. There is a solid amount of resinous notes, and pineapples and ripe mangoes. But, it's not as flashy and explosive as I hoped. Still very solid.
M: Very light and fluffy. Perfect mouthfeel for this beer.
O: This is a nice casual summer beer. It won't blow you away, but it'll be a god damn good refreshing brew.
Bottle: Poured a cloudy dark yellow color ale with a nice white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of vanilla with some citrusy undertones is quite nice and enticing. Taste is a good mix of vanilla with some residual sugar notes with some nice citrusy floral undertones. Body is full with good carbonation. Really enjoyable milkshake IPA with the only improvement point would be for the hops to come character to come out even more.
