this place is great, a cozy little old school brewpub, they really dont make them like this anymore, and i am glad it exists here in boise, one of my favorite breweries in terms of vibe so far, and a perfect and popular spot after a day up on the local ski hill here. its like stepping back in time, lots of wood features, a big fireplace in the middle, vintage beer cans lining the walls, we all know the type of spot, but the feel here is awesome, welcoming, and real relaxed. the brewery equipment is visible as you walk in, and the bar is small compared to all the seating in the restaurant, but i havent had trouble finding a place to post up yet. the beer menu isnt huge, and its not real interesting, things like blonde and pale and red and such occupy tap handles, but i have yet to have a beer i didnt like from them, all have been clean and well made, if mostly unexciting. the food has been great too, awesome chicken wings that i have already been back for, huge bowls for french fries, better than normal pub food. service has been mixed, sometimes great sometimes kind of spaced out, but not enough to ruin our time or anything, just a bit less attentive our second time in. this is a great place to relax over a few drinkable pints and unwind a bit, fill up on some great food, and take in a little slice of original idaho craft beer. this place has already found its way into our regular rotation here. i seem to like the beers better than most others who have reviewed them here on BA, maybe they have improved recently...
edit: this place still rules, better service last time in, really super positive and friendly, and their food continues to be way better than normal pub fare, definitely an underrated establishement!

Brewpub at the base of the ski hill in Boise. Decent variety, with rotating seasonal Decent burgers and food too. Nice roaring fire in the middle adds to ambiance, as well as the outdoor deck for warmer weather.

A: Located in the north end of Boise, this place has a nice pub setting. I liked the lighting and setup in the older-feeling building, with plenty of brew-related nicknacks and local Idaho stuff.
Q: Good, everything seemed clean, the food and appetizers were good, the beer and other drinks were all good too.
S: Meh. Very friendly but not quite attentive enough for my taste. Beer and water glasses sat empty for a good 5-10 minutes. Not earthshatteringly bad, just not excellent.
S: Selection has improved since the last time the wife and I were there. 8-9 taps, a rotating seasonal, stout, English Pale, IPA, lots of spring summer seasonals (wheat beers, ginger beers, raspberry beer). There is a good selection of food, appetizers, and some vegetarian stuff too if that appeals to you.
F: I think its good, not great; full plates, decent sides, good quantities, appetizers are good, sandwiches, burgers, cod, pasta. Typical pub fare, done right.
V: Reasonable. 3-6pm happy hours with $2.75 pints. Nice. Appetizers were decently priced (chips/salsa $3.75, everything else was 7-10$) and meals are your typical $7 sandwich, 8-10$ buyrger and 9-12$ fish or pasta.
Overall a nice, relatively quiet out of the way brewery. My least favorite of the big four but still worth a visit.

Get exicited about this place if you are in Boise area. A cool, quirky, sort of weird, definitely fun place on the outskirts of town. Very very good beer is to be had here.
A neighborhood vibe with some interesting local characters really make the atmosphere outstanding. About 10 minutes at the bar and any out of town visitor will feel at home and welcome.
Nice space, bar is a bit small, but there is ample seating areas inside and out, at least for the Tuesday night crowd I encountered.
No sample try, so you'll have to try pints, but they were all good. I worked through 6 of the 8 offerings. Good thing I had a ride, but I doubt if I will be back anytime soon, due to the location. If I am nearby, it will be on top of the list.

We went and had a few great beers. We really enjoyed the beers. TV's in good locations and warm feeling through out. We couldn't decide what to order until we saw the special delivered to the table next to us. Our server quickly told us that they are out. So I ordered the meatball sandwich. Meal tasted fine.
Just after finishing dinner and signing the tab our server delivers the special to another table a tables away....Totally ruined the place for me....
Wont go back now...Good beer though.

Highland Hollows is located on a small dead-end street. The surrounding foothills make this place look like it is on the edge of town. The location gives it a kind of Wild West feel.
There is a large patio in front as you enter from the parking lot.
You go through the doors and down a longish hall and the bar is straight ahead and it seats about 8. There are booths and tables scattered around a large, open circular fireplace. I like rustic nature that is accentuated by the exposed beams and white plaster.
The bar is decorated with brewery memorabilia and sports stuff. The music was a nice mix of Steve Earl type hard country.
They have 8 or so regular beers and a seasonal which was the porter during my visit. I thought the Fiewild ESB one of the better session beers I've had this year. Unfortunately they were out of their Ginger Wheat. All the beer was reasonably priced pints at $3.75.
The service was accommodating and well informed. I like professional bartenders and they have them here.
Just a nice slightly funky brewpub that I think reflects the friendly and unique nature of Boise.

Beer: A wide variety of beers, most without style names. I like this idea because it gives the brewer more freedom to be artistic and use what is available which is very important these days with our restraints on resources. The beer was very good and this is what is most important. All beers combining flavors from more than one style and still tasting great.
Food: I had a great meal and would definitely come back for more. The variety of food was good but not too many vegetarian choices, actually very few. Vegetarians love beer too!
Ambiance: This brew pub felt like home to me. Worn wood, brass with a patina, and wear on the bar surface from pint slinging creates a deep feeling of community. I mean, noticing I was not the first person to sit at this bar stool because there are elbow marks worn into the bar trim weigh heavy in my affinity for this place. Lighting was dim but the skylights add a nice warmth to each pint. The bonus is no smoking!
Cleanliness: I would say very clean and as i mentioned, no smoking
Happy Hour: 3-6pm everyday I believe, who can beat a $2.75 pint
Great experience and I would recommend this pub to all!

This was the 2nd time I've been to this place but the first time I was there I didn't realize where I was at (few to many :-)). They have some pretty tasty homemade brews on tap. Out of the 8 or so they had I tried 4 and 3 of the 4 were pretty darn good. The bartender was super nice and talked/joked with us all night. Everyone there seemed to be having a good time. Although I didn't eat, they had a very nice menu with some excellent sounding dishes. The very relaxed atmosphere was perfect for having a few brews with friends.
