Grabbed a growler of this delicious concoction on my way up to a TOOL concert in Spokane. They freaking rocked, and frankly so does this beer.
Appearance- Pours black as night with a giant creamy dark tan one finger head. Leaves a awesome cap and collar and loads of sticky lacing.
Smell- Big on bittersweet bakers chocolate and perfectly roasted coffee. Lightly buttery with a sort of smooth vanilla/cream nose. Some light vapors of alcohol are present.
Taste- Lots of rich roasted goodness here. A bit of sweet milk chocolate and a touch of fresh vanilla bean give it a very chocolate and cream taste. Like the nose there is a bit of butter and some French roast notes. Im drinking this at room temperature now and the alcohol is very pronounced.
Mouthfeel- Creamy and smooth with a nice chewy oatmeal feel, not a whole lot of carbonation and a bit of warming from the alcohol.
Drinkability- I really like McCalls Smoked Scotch Ale a lot but I think this one just inched it out. This is a really good Oatmeal Stout that I wish I could drink more often. Sucks that McCall is 2 hours away. Definitely worth seeking out if your ever in the area.
