this is weirdly strong an strangely sweet, not something i want more than a little taster of, sugary and metallic to me, overly alcoholic in a curious way that doesnt really show it in the conventional sense, but its there still. pale in color for what it is, but loaded with malt richness in nose and taste, it seems overly yeasty for what it is, with more malt residuals than it should have too, but less offensive in this regard than a number of their other beers. i get making something like this of you have nothing else like it on your list, but with a number of comparable beers, there really doesnt seem like room for this in a more well curated lineup. toffee and brown sugar, some hops and some booze, but largely just basic and strong, lots of beers like this in the world from lots of breweries like this, and i almost mean that in a good way. the place is cool, it seems to come from the heart, and just because a couple other dozen dans and johns and bills are doing the same thing, it doesnt make it bad, ya know? almost ordered a second pour...

Grunt fill from Albertsons. Clear brown pour with tiny skin of head. Straight up malty aroma, mild smoke notes. Taste also follows the malts, semi sweet, kind of nutty, a little earthy. definitive English BW notes.

From the website:
"This seasonally brewed strong English Ale is our most popular winter beer. A hefty malt bil and hops combine to form a floral and sweet offering. “ Have a couple and see why we call it Tanglefoot. ”
ABV 8.00% Hops: Challenger , US Goldings"
Picked up at Bier Thirty today for $9... poured into my slim tulip... the brew is slightly hazed copper orange... decent light tan head.... spotty lacing.
Fairly rich malty nose.... bready.... dry toast... nice caramel... possibly some plummy esters, but I could be mistaken.
Good, but could use more malt complexity on the palate... a bit one dimensional leaning heavily to the toasted bread/biscuity side of things.. soft hopping makes me think definitely of Goldings... a bit floral and spicy.
Medium bodied... sorta light carbonation.. no real complaints here.
Pretty good... Better than I had hoped for and better than the batch that I had at the brewpub a few winters ago.
Glad to see McCall Brewing get their act together.
