A lot has happened in the twelve months since Kyoto Brewing Co. released its first beer, Hajimemashite, at the Kyoto Craft Beer Festival on May 9, 2015. While there have been a lot of ups and a few downs as well during this time, the support we have received from the beer community in Japan has been overwhelming and is what has allowed us to get to where we are today.
We wanted to brew something special for our first anniversary to both celebrate this milestone as well as show our appreciation to this amazing community. We chose to brew something that was both new to us and something we thought our supporters would be excited to try, eventually settling on Nidomemashite, a Double IPA using the most exotic hops we had. The result is a tropical hop bomb that hides its bitterness and strong hop flavour behind a hefty 8.6% ABV.
As a way of showing our appreciation to those who have supported us the most, Nidomemashite will mainly be available at craft beer events, bars and restaurants with dedicated taps, and the Kyoto Brewing Co. tasting room.
Malt Bill:
Pilsner, Maris Otter, Vienna
Hops:
Bittering - Hop Extract
Flavour/Aroma - Galaxy, Citra, Topaz
Yeast: US-05 American Ale
IBU: 64
Gas Volumes: 2.3

KBC's anniversary beer. Wow. This actually reminds me of Port Brewing Company's Mongo (double) IPA; tons of mango and tropical fruits up front, well-supported by a borderline sweet yet pleasantly malty backbone.
Fresh-squeezed orange, mango, and passion fruit on the nose. This definitely isn't like anything I've smelt or tried from Japan; blindfolded I would tell you this either came from Santa Rosa or San Diego.
Juicy. Holy crap. The orange-y citrus isn't too overpowering and at the same time the malts aren't as encroaching as one would expect from a Double IPA. Unlike anything else I've tried from KBC, everything about this beer screams "West Coast IPA" as opposed to the usual amalgamation of identities; the finish is a bitter grapefruit-peel-esque sensation mixed in with a little bit of saccharine-like sweetness.
Medium-bodied with respectably light carbonation. If KBC were to start canning or bottling their brews, this is definitely the one they should start with. Damn shame that this is an anniversary brew.
