i like this kind of beer, a little something different as a summer seasonal, the time of year where we dont usually get malt forward beers, this is a neat recipe, and the second straight solid beer i have had from these guys, who seem to be getting too little attention. this is not overly rye driven, but there is enough here to make it interesting, a little earthy pep without it being too spicy or gritty like it sometimes can be in higher proportion. there is also a maris otter or english crystal thing going on with this that gives it a little more than just a light caramel note, perfect with the rye. its clean on the fermentation side, not quite all the way dry, but its light enough overall that it doesnt really need to be. mild baked note, soft honey sweetness, a biscuit vibe, and then just a little citrus and a magnum or fuggles type bittering, balanced and just interesting enough with the rye to stand out. still subtle and old school, but thoughtful and well executed. nice to have something without fruit and grains of paradise and kettle souring and all that as a summer beer, a needed change of pace here, at least for me.
