Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a dark reddish brown, with a one finger khaki head with great retention and nice lacing. Aroma of lightly toasted malt, dry caramel, bourbon and dark dried fruit. Flavor follows, with lightly toasted and caramel malt, bourbon, nuts and dates. A drier, husky nut flavor develops into the finish where bourbon and nutty malt reassert themselves. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. A great barrel aged imperial brown ale with a fine malty body, solid bourbon barrel character and a great flavor transition through the taste. The base beer is somewhere between an old ale and the blended bases for BA strong ales, although not as intense as many of those. Quite inviting and a pleasure to drink. All the Hellbent beers I've had have been solid with some pushing into very fine territory, as this does. Enjoyable and worth trying.
