Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing nearly opaque in the glass with a one finger dark khaki head with great retention and solid lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, coconut, milk chocolate and lactose. Flavor follows, with dark toasted malt with light char, coconut, milk chocolate and light lactose. Medium bodied with moderate creaminess and great silky mouth feel. Despite being fairly impressed with most of Hellbent's beers in the past, I had no high expectations for this, partially because it was off my radar; the only bottles I have seen have been a vegetable stand (which admittedly has a nicely curated beer selection), and none in a beer store or better grocery aisle. Sure glad I stumbled on it. This is offered as an imperial coconut milk stout and they nailed it. A rich, well balanced coconut and chocolate stout, and with a super mouth feel and great looking to boot. I hope this imperial version of their standard coconut stout is a regular offering. One of my favorites so far. I think these guys are flying under the radar in this area.
