When Seattle finally gets an NHL team, and one of the captains is named Jaden Schwartz, making a traditional German Schwarzbier seemed like a no brainer. Nine different malts and over six weeks of cold conditioning went into this dark lager, giving off a dark and roasty complexity, with a light body, and a clean dry finish. Don’t be fooled by all the big coffee, dark chocolate, and toasted bread flavors, this beer is light! It will taste twice as good when the Kraken hoist the Stanley Cup, but it’s pretty dang good right now. It’s so good we didn’t even have time to slip a Spaceballs reference into this description!

12oz can from Hellbent dated 04/15/24. Served in a pint glass. Beer is nicely black, tinged reddish under the light, and pours with loads of head. Sometimes a Schwarzbier can be a "lager that happens to be black" but this one has some pretty interesting flavor. Unmalted grain and treacle. Not sweet, but definitely not hoppy. Very glad to try this -- and at 20 IBU and 5.3% ABV, I could try a lot.
