This is one of the classic malty styles, with a soft, complex, and elegant maltiness but not cloying. A blend of Munich, Vienna, and Pilsner malt is then hopped with Czech Saaz hops and lagered with a Bavarian lager yeast blend.

Dark amber in color, with very little head. Smells like spent grain and wort, very little alcohol on the nose.

The taste is over-the-top maltiness, with just a hint of hops on the back of the tounge. After the second or third sip, the maltiness subsides a little bit, and other flavors come out- a tiny bit of nutmeg and just a hint of raisin.

Very drinkable, despite its high alcohol content (I believe this years was 7.4%).

I had this at the brewery. It didn't look, smell or taste like an Oktoberfest; neither a marzen nor a festbier. I'm not sure what it was, and it reminded me of a DFH Raison D'Être, which I like quite a bit; but it wasn't an Oktoberfest.
