With the spice package of corned beef including our custom spice mix of cinnamon sticks, juniper berries, pink peppercorns, allspice, bay leaves, whole cloves, ginger and yellow mustard seed, we expertly add a hint of sauerkraut and further sour it for a light, delicate and refreshing beer.

Even though it was released on St. Patrick's Day, I had to come and check out R. Shea's first "sour". Unfortunately, this was a big swing and a miss, and hopefully they either realize that and come correct next time (which is tough to say, considering they thought it was good enough to put on draft for sale in the first place), or just stop while they're behind.
This beer is a barely hazy gold with a large soft foam that clings at the edges as it settles to a thin, persistent film.
The smell is dominated by the "spice package" more than anything, but there's some buttery cinnamon toast and pie crust blanketing a hint of Gose-like salted cucumber...but baked. Yeah...
Taste is just barely even sour at all, with weak notes of yellow apple, pear, and a savory sort of holiday pie, like roasted parsnips, all via a full body with a light froth that finishes semi-wet. As it warms, I get a faint hint of pickles and some sauerkraut essence, but it's too little too late, and that's just a weird end to a worse start.
