Reviewed from notes taken at a bar in Riga, Latvia, in Summer 2014.
A .3L pour ran me 3.20 euro.
HEAD: Half a finger in height and white in colour. Average (~2 minute) retention. Soft even consistency. Leaves no lacing as it recedes.
BODY: Hazy orange-copper colour of above average vibrance. Clean, with no visible yeast/lees.
Appears adequately carbonated. Not a unique or special appearance for the style.
AROMA: Well-hopped. I get ample floral hop character predominantly, as well as some herbal hop aromatics. Helles malts. Faint actual herb. Cream.
No yeast, alcohol, or off-flavours are detectable. Pleasantly hoppy and mild in terms of strength.
TASTE: The herbal notes are lovely, and complement the floral hop notes and simple helles/pale malt backbone beautifully. Depth of flavour is above average. Has a nice duration of flavour. The light hop bitterness lingers in the aftertaste.
Herbal flavours are the highlight here, boasting subtle execution. It's not a real intricate expression of the style, but I do like it for what it is.
TEXTURE: Dry and parching. Coarse on the palate, preventing it from feeling refreshing.
Not oily, gushed, hot, boozy, astringent, or scratchy.
Not right for the style. Doesn't suit the taste at all. The herbs really dry this brew out.
OVERALL: Downable but also hard to drink because if its off-putting dryness. I'd try it again in a smaller quantity, and it hides its ABV well. It's a shame the mouthfeel doesn't serve the flavour.
High C+ (3.21) / ABOVE AVERAGE
