This is my third Devil Dog variant.

There are definite notes of peanut butter in the nose. The peanut butter carries over into the flavor profile and there is a touch of sweet chocolatey goodness on the finish. The roasted maltiness that is omnipresent in the entire Devil Dog line-up is certainly present here, but it is more muted in this variant than in any other that I have sampled.

Canned on 11-2-22. 12oz can poured into a tulip.

Pours almost black; small light khaki head that fades leaving okay retention and lacing.

The aromas have a nice amount peanut butter leading the way. Some roasted peanut shells. Hints of cocoa. Malts are there.

The flavors follow the nose perfectly. The peanut butter shines and leads the way. There's a nice amount of chocolate coming through. Moderate sweetness. Moderate to low bitterness. Solid malt backbone. Alcohol is well hidden.

Mouthfeel is on the fuller side of medium-bodied with moderate carbonation. It's very fluffy and pretty smooth.

This is a very nice peanut butter stout. The peanut butter is the star. It has everything that you'd expect. Well done.

I poured a cold one into a pint glass. A one inch head formed over a dark coffee colored body. A tan one inch head forms, almost dissapearing in a few minutes, with scant lacing persisting. The nose appeal is there... salty, freshly roasted peanuts, over a malt, with sweet, chocolatey notes beneath. The taste reflects the nose pretty accurately, with coffee more discernable, and the sweetness accentuated on the aftertaste. This is one of the best peanut butter beers I have sampled, and tastes more like a freshly made peanut butter than a typical supermarket brand. I have this style of beer with an overt sugary stickiness to the taste, and to the mouthfeel... the proportions are nicely done here, a very good brew, all the way around. I'm enjoying everything, including the 8.3% ABV, and the moderate price level. We have a real winner here, with Roak Peanut Butter Devil Dog. I started with a six pack, and went back for a case. Great job, Roak!

Something happened along the way here. Had on tap at the pub. Pour is a deep dark black that reveals some mahogany when held to the light. Nice peanut butter /coffee aroma that really didn't translate to the ale itself, like it was a shadow of regular old DD. Not bad, but not DD w/peanut butter. More oily peanut flavor and less mocha/espressoness.
