Beguiling undertones of dark berries and citrus subtly illuminate the bold, dark palate of coffee and chocolate in this sour ale.

16 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 2/21/2019. Pours slightly hazy/cloudy deep ruby reddish orange/copper color with a 1 finger dense cream colored head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big tart/sour lemon, lime, orange, raspberry, blueberry, strawberry, nutty medium roast coffee, peach, plum, pear, apricot, red/green apple, red grape/wine, hay, straw, grass, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, wheat, and toasted brown bread; with lighter notes of vanilla, chocolate, cocoa, pepper, lacto funk, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/acidic yeast, coffee, and dark/bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big tart/sour lemon, lime, orange, raspberry, blueberry, strawberry, nutty medium roast coffee, peach, plum, pear, apricot, red/green apple, red grape/wine, hay, straw, grass, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, wheat, and toasted brown bread; with lighter notes of vanilla, chocolate, cocoa, pepper, lacto funk, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate lactic tart/sourness; light herbal, grassy, roasted coffee bitterness; and spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of tart lemon, lime, orange, raspberry, blueberry, strawberry, nutty medium roast coffee, peach, plum, pear, apricot, red/green apple, red grape/wine, hay, straw, grass, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, wheat, toasted brown bread, light vanilla/cocoa/lacto funk, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/acidic yeast, coffee, and dark/bready malt flavors; with an awesome malt/tart/sourness balance, and no puckering flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering tart/sourness. Medium carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready/grainy, fairly acidic, and lightly chalky/sticky mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 5.1%. Overall this is an excellent dark sour ale! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/acidic yeast, coffee, and dark/bready malt flavors; very smooth and refreshing to drink with the mellowly acidic/drying finish, not overly lactic. Very flavorful for the ABV. Awesome balance of fruity/nutty coffee, Lacto complexity, and nicely rich dark/bready malts against acidity. A very enjoyable offering, and impressive style example.
