perhaps my favorite of the five fine ales we had from these guys, as they ended up being one of my favorite costa rican brewers by the time we drank through these. this is dubbed a new porter on the label, and although i dont all the way know why they are adding new to the name, the beer is excellent. its quite dark in color but only moderately bitter from dark roasted grain, and i get a lot of other thing aside from that burnt or ashy quality that usually comes from these malts, including coffee, licorice, and starch. its quite interesting, but it doesnt drink as dark as all of that sounds, there is a lighter cocoa forward brown ale complexion right there with it on the malt side, and the finish is super dry, so it never lingers too long, which i think is unique for the style. body is only middle of the road, so its not too heavy either. smooth going down with some cool flashes of dried fruit and european ale yeast, its very enjoyable, even in warm and humid weather. my overall impression of this brewery was extremely favorable, and this was one of their best. so cool to see craft beer of this quality happening all over the world!
