The guy behind the counter is a cool cat. We drank a beer together (he gave me a free one since I was shopping but don't expect it always) and I picked his brain on his local favorites. We talked vacations and travel and beer trips and marriage...etc etc etc. Mask is required which is stupid but the whole city is under a mandate.

It's a relatively small selection but they only stock what sells so they can keep a decent turnover. He explained this to me in detail.

*Singles selection :
5 out of 5
They have a dedicated wall of coolers housing singles that outnumbers the amount of full packs they have. Everything in the store is a single, plus others that aren't in packs.

* Singles pricing :
3.5 out of 5
This is where it gets fuzzy. The shelves are tagged, not the individual beers, and not everything is stashed in the right spot, not due to customer laziness, but because they put a totally new beer in the spot when the old one sells out. So asking for pricing is a must if you're unsure.

---About 60% of the singles are what I'd call appropriate - between 30-50 cents above what you'd pay if you split the pack equally. (example : $9.99 6 pack, $1.99 single)
---About 30% of them are exorbitant, asking upwards of $1.00-$2.00 per can above equally split pricing. (example : $20.99 4 pack, $6.99 single)
---About 10% are the rare ones that are actually 10-20 cents LESS than the pack if split.

That being said, it's fair pricing. You won't get the best, you won't get the worst, but you'll do fine if you stop here and are a singles whore.

*General selection :
4 out of 5
Again, they only stock what they can sell. If you are a local and want them to stock something, keep buying it. It makes sense. For this reason they have less stock than other stores in Wilmington.

*Cleanliness, Lighting, & Price Tags :
4 out of 5
Cute shop with a cool vibe and lots of neat art hung up. Clean facilities. Pricing as I said can be dicey on the singles, but the 4 packs are all clearly marked.

*What I came away with :
(1) 4 pk Casa Mexican Imp Stout - $21.95 and a wave of singles that I'll post up later.

*Packaged Beer Total after tax : $87.00
*Trip Running Total : $1,251.00

No trip to Wilmington is complete with a visit to Hey!Beer. From the welcoming smiles of the folks behind the counter, to the top-notch draft list, the excellent selection of cold cans and bottles grouped broadly by style, to the scattering of sixers, four-packs and big bottles, this is the beer destination of choice when visiting the Port City. Almost forgot to mention, the owners and staff really know their beer, plus they’ve got this ‘living room’ space with comfy couches, board games, etc., where everyone can feel right at home. Love this place!

We walked in the door and were greeted by the manager, he showed us around and asked us what kind of beers we liked and were into. He made some suggestions to us based on those questions, showed us some of the local beers as we told him we were out of state. He described the pick-a-6 or 8 and the discounts available from that. He showed us the taps and gave us the prices on Growlers and Howlers. He let us know what was new and fresh and he also told us to go check out some other places when he didn't have a couple of the things we were looking for and gave us advice on where too go.

This place is great, super nice people, good selection, not a bad drive from anywhere in Wilmington.

I had an absolutely righteous experience at Hey!Beer. The owner, Mike, in all his bearded glory, was as knowledgable about his selection as men with gout are about comfortable footwear. I purchased 6...read that again...6 beers!!! They were all different, too. What a great place. Thanks, Mike, for the hospitality and fantastic shopping experience. Go hops!

I stopped in here on my most recent visit to Wilmington. I had been to Lighthouse before but figured I'd check this one out. The selection is amazing and the prices are fair. Large enough selection in the fridge, but also beer out of coolers. It's a small shop but still enough space where you don't feel cramped. The owner showed me around, explained mix sixers + discounts, etc. He was very friendly and welcoming. Also had some beers on tap available to take home in growlers. The next time I'm in Wilmington, I'm certainly going to stop by!

New (opened Jan 2015) family-operated bottle shop. Wide selection with eight rotating offerings on tap for growlers. Nice décor that focuses on the beer; friendly, helpful staff that is open to suggestions. Highly recommended.
