Alright let's review another kinda high abv wild ale out of Orange County.

Pours an interesting color that is lighter at the bottom, more of a golden yellow but then the upper is almost a deep amber to light brown. White head, 1/2" deep. The aroma was heavy on lemon and pineapple like sourness. Coconut finishes last unless you count wood. Huh huh, count wood.

The taste brings the solid barley and rye base beer into a solid variant. Pineapple is high and binds to create a hefty acidity presence, but hey 7.8% alcohol will be like the 3rd member of a six man tag here. The freebirds baby. Smack those gums and tongue. Coconut gives it a more diversified tropical feel, and you know the 'guy' here likes his diversity is our strength cliches. At this point I'm wishing for this beer in a dialed down 5.5% range.

Wait, WTF, this is the #16th ranked wild ale in the world? I mean, I liked it, but I wouldn't be sure its in my top 16 Bruery wild ales.

2020 edition

A: Poured into a tulip to a deep reddish brown beer which is topped by a dense and slightly rocky finger of just off white head which fades slowly to a collar around the edge of the glass with minimal lacing
S: Smells of pineapple sweetness and some nice acidity along with some rye spice
T: Taste is pineapple sweetness up front with some building sourness, hints of coconut(but maybe that's just my brain wishing), a little funk, some spicy rye and a touch of vanilla. On the finish there's more pineapple, sourness, rye spice, and a little lingering lemony tartness.
M: This beer has a body which is on the lighter side of medium. Carbonation is effervescent and adequate for the style while the beer has a drying finish due to the acidity.
O: I probably let this one sit a little too long and the adjuncts have faded. It's still a very good beer as Sour in the Rye is an excellent base beer. Overall still super enjoyable, but one that's probably best served to drink fresh.

Appearance: Slightly cloudy amber color with a slight pink tint. The beer has a fairly generous off white head that slowly dissipated.

Smell: Moderate level of funk and citrus fruits aromas.

Taste: Fairly prominent citrus notes dominate. I also get some mild acetic notes. I'm not picking up any coconut or pineapple notes.

Mouth-feel: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.

Overall: I'm a big fan of Sour in the Rye without any adjuncts so I found this beer tasty. What I didn't get was any hint of the coconut and pineapple added to this variant.
Edit: When this beer got close to room temperature I would get the slightest hint of coconut at times.

2020 release. Poured into a Bruery RS tulip glass.

Appearance is exactly like other SiTR that I’ve had the pleasure of trying (regular and w/Kumquats). The smell though is lacking any hint of either Pineapple or Coconut.

Not sure what happened here with this beer, but the taste is completely devoid of pineapple and coconut, which is not only strange, but completely disappointing.

It’s still a very good sour in its own right - as I’ve found is no surprise from the Bruery- but I can’t rate this beer very high due to it missing the two featured elements. I thought I may have been going crazy, or my palate is fried, but another BA posted recently that he had the same experience. At this price point, I would have a tough time pulling the trigger on another bottle.

Rating this beer from last year. I see some negative reviews on this one, but they are reviewing a different version, the cask variation. This initial beer last year was hands down the best sour beer ever produced. I pray nightly, that I can get more growler fills for summer time. Best thing I have ever had in beer.

Had a cask of this at The Bruery... I honestly don't get the hype, fresh coconut adds a very odd smell and flavor to lighter beers. Mash and Coconut was incredible, but this really fell flat.
