Hoarders Society exclusive blend of our Sour In The Rye and our bourbon barrel aged old-ale, Sucré, with the addition of an incredible number of boysenberries. This deep purple beer is textured with sweet notes of caramelized malts, spicy rye, oak, juicy berries and a pleasantly sour funk. It’s a rather befuddling meld of flavors with an outcome that we couldn’t enjoy more.

750 mL bottle into a Jolly Pumpkin tulip glass
Muddy, purple-brown appearance. Sudsy with a frothy head that never fully recedes.
Nose is super oaky, lemony, horse-blanket funk. Unripe berries abound.
More sour-forward on the palate, boysenberry-rush. The leather and funk are there, but it’s ultimately a straight-up sour brew. A little caramelly-bourbon note toward the finish, which is surprisingly short.
For these barrel-aged sour hybrid geek brews, this is about as good as it gets.

Poured from a purple-ish grey-waxed 750mL bottle into a TG Assassin teku. Pours a murky reddish brown with almost two fingers of dark khaki colored foam head. There is a definite fruitiness to the nose as well as some caramel and cardboard and dust. Taste follows. The fruit takes on a sourness that I don’t necessarily dig but it’s still enjoyable. It’s got a a silky mouthfeel that’s quite smooth. Good beer. Very interesting. Fruited sour meets barleywine thing going on. Complex for sure.

my draft pour of this from the new idaho location was a bit messy, thick and sedimented, murky and dense and dull, drank almost gritty, either the very beginning or the very end of the keg or something, im sure its not all like this, but this is yet another lackluster pour of a beer i was maybe way too excited about here, not bad, but the quality in this specimen isnt there, which is not what i know from these guys, makes me feel like i need to try again with this one or source a bottle. anyway its a cool blend of sour in the rye and bourbon forward barrel aged strong ale, loaded with boysenberries. its amazing how sour it is really, more acidic than rich, cannot be equal parts of these ales in the blend. the fruit is really forward too, jammy sweet and also bracingly tart, its the first thing i smell and the last thing i taste, but in between there are notes of red wine vinegar and an almost oud bruin type rich malt with high pucker ferment, lots of oak, some of the rye still comes through, vanilla from the whiskey, toffee and honey in the malt layers, even cocoa, leather, and smoke. the wood tannins are present, there is some funk to it as it warms, and there are wrinkles of black currant and black cherry on the fruit side as well. this is both thick and acetic, i like the barrels, the funk, and the fruit, but i was expecting quite a bit more from this. i will reserve harsher judgement until i can try it again, preferably from the bottle, and compare, there is no way i got this as the brewers intended, a shame and not the first time from this location so far, but i keep going back because when these guys hit they hit like no other, still so thankful to have them here!

Bottled 12/08/16 and consumed 10/09/21! Almost five years old, pretty sweet. So much oaky, woody, earthy, funky character intact with a massive dark fruit flavor. It’s all rich berries with some wet wood in the finish. A delicious beer that hits heavy.

A: Poured into a Duvel tulip to a deep purpleish red which is topped by a dense and slightly rocky finger and a half of off white head which fades slowly to a collar around the edge of the glass with minimal lacing
S: Smells of pleasant oak and sourness with some boysenberries and leather along with some hints of caramel
T: Taste is boysenberries up front with some toasted malts, caramel, leather, hints of funk, touch of furniture polish, and there's a nice underlying sourness thoughout. On the swallow there's some more funk, furniture polish, oak, boysenberries, caramel and lingering sourness.
M: This beer has a moderate amount of heft with a slightly creamy feel on the palate. Carbonation is effervescent and just slightly prickly while the beer has a drying finish due to the acidity.
O: Overall this is a really great beer. Fruited dark sours are not often seen and this beer does not disappoint. The beer has a really nice amount of complexity and has held up well despite being from 2014.

2014 bottle. Poured from a 750mL bottle into a Bruery tulip glass.
Pours a muddy brown-cedar body with an off white 3 finger fizzy head that reduces to a good layer of retention.
Aromas are much like a Flanders red - sour lactic with vanilla and caramel, vinegar, rye, funk, light berry.
On the tongue are sweet and sour notes, upfront is sour cherry and lactic acidity, followed by sweet caramel, balsamic vinegar and fruits. Drying aftertaste. Low carbonation and medium body.
This was a nice change of pace. Good sourness and flavor, berries made an appearance. Reminded me of a Flanders Red.

I tend to stay away from the soir series from The Bruery, but this brew is very tasty stuff...not much on the nose, but I get plenty of sweet red grape and oak from the barrel on the taste...

Crazy color on this one: Pinkish-purplish red with two fingers of tan head. Sloppy sheets of lacing.
Sour, tart aroma with strong berry. Some oak. Way behind that there's some vanilla and maybe even bourbon.
Tart tasting with strong berry presence. Touch of cream. Touch of toffee and vanilla. Maybe a hint of rye spiciness. Definite wood. Has a Flanders-like finish: tannic acid, a little vinegar, some cherry.
Medium bodied with fairly strong carbonation.
A great wild ale with strong, jammy berries. There are only hints of the toffee, vanilla and bourbon behind. Fun sipper!
