L - Pours a hazy bronze body with a one finger khaki head. Not much lacing or retention to the beer.

S - A big whiff of anise hits you from the start. Midway in the dates and sour body come through. The cinnamon is faint towards the ending. But, the main driver of this beer is the anise.

T - Lots of acidity and sourness up front. An anise jammy quality develops afterwards with a cherry flavor. Brown sugar and dates flow in with faint cinnamon. But again, the star of the show is the anise.

F - Medium bodied and medium carbonation. Dry finish.

O - Pretty much a mess of a beer that I'm surprised made it past the initial stages of product development.

A: Poured into a Duvel tulip to a deep brown with some reddish highlights topped by a dense two finger head that fades to a small pool with minimal lacing
S: Smells of anise with hints of sourness. That's really it on the nose with this one. Slightly sour black licorice with hints of Jaeger.
T: Taste is some really bright acidity on the front with the anise notes, slight sour cherry as well with a little funk and caramel. Slight leather as well but the anise keeps coming back. Swallow is more acidity with some slight funk on the finish and some lingering anise.
M: This beer is on the heavier side of medium with a slightly thick and syrupy mouthfeel. Carbonation is a little prickly which is fine and the beer finishes on the dry side.
O: Overall this one is kind of an odd duck. It has some nice acidity to it but the anise really doesn't do the beer any favors. I think this one without the spice additions may have been killer but the need to add more layers kind of ruins it. Definitely not one to seek out but it would appear that the anise has at least faded over time to let some other flavors in. I have a bunch of these so I guess we'll see if it gets better with time.

What the hell was the Bruery thinking with this? Upon cracking the 750 I got hit with the anise. Why? Why is there anise?

It absolutely dominates the nose, the flavor, the aftertaste.

Medicinal tastes like this. This is like Jager, but soured.

And for a few moments, I almost like it and then, nope, it's fucking anise.

Melange 11 pours nice and looks good, with a big foamy head and persistent lacing. But from there, it all goes wrong. Smells like pure straight-up liquorice, burnt sugar, cinnamon and caramel.

The taste is all of that, with added sweetness and an unpleasant sour touch. It's like drinking brown sugar in liquid form with an acrid finish.

The mouthfeel is correct, but this is just not a pleasant brew to drink. And so overall, I had a couple of sips and tossed it down in my backyard. Maybe the neighborhood raccoon will lick the sticky trail left behind. Glad I tried this weird experiment, but no thanks.

I've had this twice now (buddy had two bottles) about 1 year apart. Yep, they both sucked horribly. Soured anise? Holy lord. I love the Bruery, but whoever ok'd this blend was frickin' drunk. This should never ever be made again. Soured anus.

Auburn appearance, solid 1/2" of off white head on it. Aroma was tart, sour, and licorice. I thought this was bad, but it was about to get epicly worse. The relatively high degree of sourness to it kind of hit how shitty the licorice was.

If you can get past the domineering amount of licorice, then you can detect notes of toffee. Bitter dark fruit notes that are still getting pushed around by the licorice.

This is the first melange beer that sucked. And it really sucked. If you ever thought like an imperialized version of warm but infected Jaeger was a good idea, then this is your jam.

Split with JLindros.

A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a nice chestnut with a good one finger head that fades to leave a thin blanket and light lacing.

S - Aromas of anise, abusive to the nose. Almost mouthwash smelling. Light caramel and malts, soft bourbon, light rye. Really really unpleasant.

T - Taste is sweet and sour sauce mixed with sambuca. Basically it.

M - Mouthfeel is lightly carbonated, thin, sharp.

O - Overall this beer was rather awful. Can't drink more than a few sips. Awful.
