Cinnamon and monks are both known for being found in remote locations. Their stories separately stretch back several millennia, and both can pinpoint their popularity to modern day Egypt. But here's something else they have in common: together, they make a formidable team in creating wildly traditional bière™. Cinnamonk is a dark, imperial, Belgian-style sour brown ale - the type of beer a monk might brew if he took up permanent residence in Southern California. Cinnamon was used to amplify the subtle spicing derived from the Belgian yeast while blueberries catapult the dark fruit flavors. After spending time in bourbon barrels, the result emerges with notes of candied dates and tree nuts, toffee-drizzled dark winter fruits, maduro earthiness, autumnal spicing, tart flavors and oak-aged character.

Enjoyed a 2015 vintage, aged 5 years. The result was a smooth, beautifully balanced spiced sour ale. Cinnamon plays off blueberries, and the taste combination was deliciously unique. The Bruery Terreux line strikes again!

Usually when a beer is bad I will go into great detail describing what is terrible about it. But this is one of those instances where it just isnt worth the time and effort to describe what its like.
If your idea of a good time is drinking brown muck that smells/tastes like blueberry, cinnamon, vinegar and soy sauce, than this is the brew for you.

A: Poured into a Duvel tulip to a deep brown topped by half a finger of light tan head that fades slowly to a collar around the edge of the glass with minimal lacing
S: Smells of blueberries and sourness with some caramel, vanilla and oak from the bourbon barrel. Slight hints of spice and cinnamon but muted behind the other flavors of the beer.
T: Taste is juicy blueberries, toffee, and sourness with some nice bourbon barrel notes along with some nice dark fruits, spice and cinnamon. Swallow is a nice tartness, more blueberries, cinnamon spice and that bourbon barrel character with some lingering blueberry at the back end.
M: The beer has a body that is on the heavier side of medium with soft carbonation which is adequate for the style. It does get a little prickly at times but it isn't excessive. The acidity and the ABV gives this one a dry finish.
O: This is probably one of the more challenging beers that I have drank in awhile. It has a lot going on with some big flavors and also some subtle ones. It will be interesting to see how this one changes over time. Definitely a great offering from The Bruery.

2015 vintage
L - Pours a muddled brown body with a fizzy khaki one finger head. Not much inspiration upon first glance.
S - Sour aromas hits at first and brings with it sweet malts, cinnamon, blueberries and oak. Faint bourbon on the back end.
T - Super tasty! It pretty much follows the nose. Sour blueberries, sweet malts and cinnamon. Just like the smell, the bourbon barrel is faint on the taste, but it does add some oaky bourbon elements. The acidity is low and wasn't as high as I was expecting.
F - Medium bodied and low carbonation. Dry finish.
O - Such a unique beer as I don't recall having anything like it! Definitely a must try that surprised me.

L: dark brown. A decent head that goes away fast. Average looking beer.
S: slight bourbon. Larger cinnamon smell. Subtle blueberries and sour ale.
T: nice combination of the flavors. I am not a big sour fan but this is one of the best I have tried.
F: tart front and then smoothes out with a lingering tingle.
O: a nice beer for what it is. I'm not a sour drinker but this was a good one.

750 mL bottle poured into a tulip
A cola-brown brew, Cinnamonk yields only a wispy head on a medium pour with no lacing - has a seemingly thin viscosity. A bold nose though, with notes of pit fruit and black currants, dried by oak and spice and plenty of alcohol warmth.
There's a lot happening on the palate, even more than hinted by the nose. Tart, young berries. Cinnamon and clove. Yeasty Belgian esters accent the berry/jammy suggestions. Plenty of astringent oak playing off bourbon-y sweetness. The flavors aren't all that streamlined, but if pressed for an overall undertone, wine-like grapes come to mind. A medium-light complexion with ample carbonation keeps the sip festive and easy to drink.
Interesting brew, pretty tasty, although the flavors are a little disjointed.
