We filled fresh Willet bourbon barrels with our sour tripel then aged them for 12 months before finishing with Madagascar vanilla bean.

A: Poured into a Bruery tulip to a deep golden orange topped by a finger of dense and slightly rocky off white head which fades quickly to a collar around the edge of the glass with minimal lacing.
S: Smells of sourness, wet wood, and vanilla with some bourbon notes tucked underneath.
T: Taste is quite sour with some slight fruitiness, woody, interesting spice note, and some strong vanilla. Kind of middling plasticky like note as well with a little paint thinner. On the swallow there's more sourness, light citrus, vanilla, wood, bourbon barrel, paint thinner and spice. Surprisingly boozy for the ABV with a definite taste of alcohol.
M: This beer is fairly full in body with a slightly silky feel on the palate. Carbonation is on the lower end of effervescent while the beer has a drying finish due to the acidity.
O: Overall this isn't the most true to style beer out there. The sourness, bourbon barrel aging and vanilla take this one straight into left field. It isn't a bad beer and it gets much better as it warms. It just tastes like it's trying to do too much. The willet barrels imparted a ton of flavor but I just can't figure out what they were trying to do with this. It isn't bad, but it isn't great either.
