Frucht: Grapefruit & Salt is the next installment of our series of fruited Berliner Weisse-style beers. Known for a tart flavor profile and traditionally low ABV, our German-style wheat beer gains even more funky notes and natural earthy-woodiness from its fermentation in one of our large oak foeder vessels. Each installment in the series features a new fruit, or Frucht, if we’re sprechen sie Deutsch. This installment has grapefruit and salt added, inspired by the Salty Dog cocktail. Prost!

Another beer from the final weekend in September 2019 around the pool.
Pours a light amber color with 2/3" white head that diminishes to around the 1/3" level before it hits that retention wall. The aroma does hit the bitter lemon and grapefruit notes. Couldn't really smell the "salt" part but who can smell salt?
Taste was good, probably would just prefer the regular Hottenroth or Frederick H base than the salt and grapefruit additions, but they aren't terrible, they are what they say they are. Its prickly and its not just the carbonation. The light wheat body is discernable, but slightly obscured by the grapefruit and salt which did become noticeable in the taste and mouth feel. Its pretty acidic and sour for a berliner weisse, but that is how Bruery rolls with their berliners post almighty Hottenroth. Good dry woody finish on it. This one had to be one of the cheaper Frucht versions to make, but still at that premium price point. Worth trying once.

A: Poured into a Duvel tulip to a nice golden orange topped by a dense finger of white head which quickly disappears without a trace.
S: Smells of some pleasant wheat notes with some grapefruit and slight sourness
T: Taste is a nice bright and juicy grapefruit note followed by some sourness and sharpness from the salt. On the swallow there's a creamy and slightly toasty wheat note with more grapefruit, some slight wood and lingering saltiness.
M: This beer is somewhat light in body but it is not watery. Carbonation is effervescent without being prickly and the acidity ensures that this beer has a drying finish.
O: Overall this is a really nice beer. It has good flavors and complexity which make it a pleasant and easy drinking beer if you don't mind things on the sour side. This beer is perfect for a hot summer day and is well worth a try if you're a fan of this series.
