We love our Sour in the Rye. We love Sorrento. We had a bunch of tangerines and vanilla on hand. It was really that simple. A play on the citrus and honey notes of the rye ale and vanilla from aging in oak barrels, Sour Tangie is citrus-forward with that creamy sweet perception that only vanilla can provide.

375ml bottle poured into a snifter
A- pours brown in color with a one finger get foamy off white head that reduces to a ring
S- citrus forward nose with aromas of tangerine & lime, followed by vanilla and sharp oak with a hint of peppery rye in the background
T- tart and tangy up front with an immediate hit of lemon and lime. Mid-palate gives some oak and a hint if peppery rye. The finish gives more tangerine and lime, with a hint of vanilla on the linger
M- medium body with moderate carbonation, foamy mouthfeel leads to a puckering dry finish

Had this for harvest/brew day September 2020 out in Sheldon's garage.
Pours a dark orange leaning into auburn color. 2/5" off white head, surprisingly good retention. The aroma definitely punched the tangerine and vanilla card. Sourness plenty apparent.
Taste is quite nice. You get the requisite amped up Bruery sourness, but only about 1/2 the usual acidity for their beers in this era, which is to say its acidic, but you know, a sour tangerine zest beer, gonna have some citric acidity by nature. Vanilla no doubt does a great job here both in the taste and the mouth feel. I didn't know there was a Sourrento base/aspect to this beer, but it makes sense after reading it. I like that beer a lot too. The rye body is nice, I guess this is like a combo of Sour in the Rye and Sourrento, again, makes sense, I like both. Doesn't have that rye 'spice' that seems almost like a reflexive reference when rye comes out. Might not have a sensitive enough palate with the sourness and vanilla to pick it up, could be on me.

A: Poured into a tulip glass to a deep bronze colored beer that's a little hazy. the beer is topped by a finger of dense and rocky cream colored head which fades slowly to a collar around the edge of the glass with minimal lacing.
S: Smells of intense tangerines and vanilla with a nice amount of sourness. Slight oak in the background as well along with a hint of spice.
T: Taste is bright sourness and tangerines up front, a nice wave of vanilla, hint of oak, and a touch of spice. The fruit is the dominant note. On the swallow there's more tangerine, sourness, vanilla, oak, and spice.
M: This beer is on the lighter side of medium with a slightly creamy feel on the palate. Carbonation is on the low end of adequate while the beer has a slightly drying finish.
O: Overall this is a really nice twist on Sour in the Rye. I think the blonde base works better for Sourrento but I appreciate what they had going on here. Really nice complexity and flavors. I'd like to see this one come back.
