Sometimes, if you listen, a beer will speak to you and tell you exactly what it wants. The inspiration for Heavanilla came after tasting some barrels of our Sour Tripel and noticing huge notes of vanilla from the time spend in heavenly bourbon barrels. So we thought, let's lean into it. This sour tripel was treated with plump, juicy, whole Madagascar Vanilla beans right in barrel, and the results are celestial.

A: Poured into a snifter to a light golden brown beer which is topped by a dense and slightly rocky finger of off white head which fades slowly to a collar around the edge of the glass
S: Smells of slight lemony tartness with a surprising amount of sweetness, tons of vanilla, some orchard fruit and a bit of oak.
T: Taste is vanilla up front along with some tart cirtus, a little tropical fruit, oak, and a hint of peppery spice. On the finish there's more tartness, vanilla, oak, and spicy yeast.
M: This beer has a body which is on the heavier side of medium and a slightly creamy feel. Carbonation is slightly effervescent and adequate for the style while the beer has a drying finish due to the acidity.
O: Overall this was an interesting beer but it's a bit of an oddity. I'm not sure what they were shooting for aside from a sour beer loaded with vanilla. It sort of works, but the flavors are also sort of across the board. It drinks well and it's interesting. It really just tastes like a well made high ABV sour beer with a boatload of vanilla.

Burnt amber with a half finger off white head. Nose is full of vanilla, grape, and oak. Taste opens with a hit of sharp vanilla, grape, a light tartness that folds into smooth oak tannins. Body it’s light to medium with similar carbonation. Ends dry with a lingering tart oakiness. Overall it’s solid and as always very well balanced in true Bruery fashion. It’s highlights the barrel well. Glad I tried it but it but not something I want all the time

Look at me writing the first review for a beer. Must be some kind of sociopath adding beers but not reviewing them.
Pours an amber color. Leaning to the darker side of the amber spectrum. Everyone and thing is on the spectrum, sure it tends to be in certain lack of qualities, but let's persist. The off white nature of the head is about 1/3". The aroma is a heavy sour presence. Vanilla not absent, but about to come on stronger. Its very different from the usual yeasty booziness of a tripel. I like it.
Taste, I didn't expect to like but did. This beer doesn't make sense on paper. The light toffee note is supporting role to a heavier vanilla presence. Its pretty sour, lemon style. Not taking anything bourbon out of this, I think its just a bourbon barrel like Tart of Darkness: It's just there for souring, not for imparting bourbon. Real good job at not being boozy or too acidic. At almost 13% I thought for sure this was going to be a brutal sour in that regard.
Rough on paper, but this one ended up being pretty good.
