Black & Blue & Red is next on the review table. I served it at 48 degrees. I used tulip glass; the pour created a frothy, airy, tan two-fingered head with fair retention. The dissipation left no lacing on the glass. The color is charting around SRM 34, dark amber brown, with reddish hues. The appearance is average, with some clarity. The beer has no clarity and looks muddy in the glass. I expected this beer to have a darker hue because it was a stout. The head retention came and went fast in a bubbly hurry.
The bourbon and the sour ale punch your nose hard. After recovering from my hit, I lingered, smelling the beer. I detect chocolate, berries, oak, and a hint of char. The sourness fades, allowing me to smell a light barnyard, lemons, and acidic acid. Nosing the glass a few more times, I detect the stout aromas, yet they are not as strong; furthermore, I notice coffee, earthiness, raisins, oranges, and a dark, toasted bready malt. The alcohol is not as intense, yet it hovers in the background.
The sour ale clashes with the tart berries. The tartness comes across as astringent yet fruity tartness. The stout flavors get lost a bit; I got chocolate, coffee, earthiness, toasted dark bread, molasses, caramel, and raisins with a bit of floral. The barrel age gives the beer depth with bourbon, oranges, vanilla, char, and oak.
The mouthfeel is dry and finishes puckering smooth. The body is medium-plus, and carbonation is medium-high.
It is hard for me to say what berries are in the beer. I hoped the stout would bring a heavier presence, tempering the sourness. The barrel aging helps with balance and depth. This is a tasty beer, but I was expecting a bit more.

A: Poured into a tulip glass to a black beer which is topped by a dense and slightly rocky finger of tan head which fades slowly to a collar around the edge of the glass with minimal lacing
S: Smells of chocolate and roasted malts with some slight sourness, oak, vanilla, and some nice berry notes
T: Taste is slight tartness up front with some chocolate and roasted malts before some oak, vanilla, blueberries, cherries, and blackberries come out to play. The berry notes seem to build with the tartness. On the finish there's more roasted malts, cherries and blueberries, chocolate, vanilla, and oak.
M: This beer is on the heavier side of things with a slightly silky/syrupy feel on the palate. Carbonation is on the low side but ti is adequate for the style while the beer has a drying finish due to the acidity and high ABV.
O: Overall this is a really nice beer. It has good flavors and a really good amount of complexity which makes it a good addition to the BBLs line from Bruery Terreux.
