Name: Amore Amaro
Brewery: The Bruery Terreux
Location: Placentia, CA
Style: Barreled-Aged Wild Ale
ABV: 9.8%
Date: 2022
I am trying a sour ale in Fernet and Rum barrels. I am trying to figure out what Fernet is; I must do a quick study. Fernet is a herbaceous liqueur; this ought to make the beer different than the usual barrel-aged wild ale. Using a tulip glass, I served the beer at around 44 degrees. The pour created a frothy and creamy one-fingered light tan head. The quick dissipation left some lacing on the glass—charting color at SRM 12, dark amber with copper hues. The clarity is clear with a little bit of carbonation. The apperance of the beer is average.
Nosing the glass, I smell wild yeast, herbs, caramel, lime, oranges, slight barnyard funk, oak, and a touch of floral with some earthiness.
The flavors are herbaceous, caramel, oak, lightly toasted malts, slight barnyard, limes, oranges, sourness like acidic acid, and some earthiness.
The mouthfeel is astringent and puckering. The body is medium-light, has medium-high carbonation, and finishes quickly and dry.
An unusual sour beer with different barrel aging. I taste more of the fernet over the rum. I could not tell if this beer was aged in rum barrels—a good sour for a cold spring day.
