Tequila barrel-aged sour ale with agave, limes, strawberries, and sea salt

¡Más fresa, por favor! This strawberry margarita-inspired imperial sour ale is sure to get the fiesta started. After aging in tequila barrels for the heat and spice you’d expect, we added agave, limes, strawberries, and sea salt to mimic the vacation-worthy flavors. Garnish with a salt rim and lime wedge, or enjoy it as is. ¡Salud

Pours a somewhat murky amber, light collar of off-white head, light lacing. Nose is huge sweet boozy margarita - really the biggest comp is the Bud Ritas. The fruit is amped up here, with some strong cooked strawberry notes. Some brackish, citric notes as well, especially once I realize the sea salt and lime that's supposed to be found in here. Taste is spicy tequila, strawberry jam, and not much else. Very little acid, very little salinity. Feel is sticky and thick, with light carbonation. This plays like a Bud Light Strawberry Rita, but at nearly twice the ABV, it's far more unpleasant and punishing.

750 ml bottle, 2023 edition, bottled on 07/25/23. Served in a Bruery tulip, the beer pours a dark reddish/amber color with about an inch off-white/pinkish head that stuck around a little while. Decent amount of lacing. I like the aroma, the brew smells like tequila, strawberries, limes and agave. Taste is similar to the aroma, but there's also the addition of some sea salt. All the flavors mesh well together but I do think the tequila barrel character in this is definitely noticeable. Nice balance between the sweet and sourness too, leans more sweeter tasting as the beer warms. Mouthfeel/body is full, it's slick and a bit syrupy with a moderate amount of carbonation. I thought this was a good overall brew, definitely reminds me of a strawberry margarita!
