Notes / Commercial Description:
Evan Kleiman, host of KCRW's Good Food, was inspired to collaborate with Patrick Rue and The Bruery after enjoying a homemade Rhubarb Raspberry Pie. The rhubarb's fruity sourness tempered with the sweetness of the fresh raspberries and the wheat crust, begged to be bottled up in the form of a bubbly beer. Keeping the original pie recipe in mind, specialty grains were chosen to mimic the crust, and rhubarb and raspberries were used in varying stages of the brewing and fermentation process. The resulting beer is reminiscent of a fresh country pie, cooling on a farmhouse windowsill.

A: Poured into a Duvel tulip to a deep brown topped by a finger and a half of dense off white head which fades slowly to a collar around the edge of the glass with minimal lacing.
S: Smells of a pleasant sourness with some rhubarb and raspberries along with some nice oak notes
T: Taste is a nice and bright juicy raspberry and rhubarb note along with a pleasant amount of sourness. Slight oak as well. On the swallow the rhubarb comes to the forefront while the raspberry lingers the longest. Slight oak again on the finish while the beer remains pleasantly sour throughout.
M: This beer is on the heavier side of medium in body with a slightly syrupy mouthfeel. The carbonation on this beer is effervescent but not prickly and could stand to be a bit higher. The acidity gives the beer a drying finish which is expected.
O: Overall I really enjoy a good fruited sour and this one is no exception. Great fruit flavors with some really nice sourness make this one a pleasant drink. The heavy fruit takes away some of the complexity but it doesn't detract from the experience. Worth a try if you can find it.

Pours a rusty brown and dark red kind of color like you can literally see the rhubarb contribution. Light brown head on it, about 1/4" deep. Aroma is berry, rhubarb, brown malt, oak, cherry.

Taste, wow, prototypical jammy type of descriptor here, nice bitterness from the rhubary, good juiciness from the berries. Even kind of have a crust feel to it if you let your mind wander. Good sourness, 6pts on a 10pt intensity scale. The alcohol isn't as noticeable as you would think for over 10%, gives it a nice fresh breath. I dunno this is another hit for rhubarb. I dunno if it as good as the awesome New Glarus one, that one has strawberries with it, this uses raspberries. They're both excellent and two of my faves. This is a bigger one for sure. Carbonation was appropriate.

750ml bottle into a tulip appears a clear ruby color with a khaki head that fades quick leaving spotty lace.

The aroma is pleasantly fruity with raspberry puree/seeds and earthy rhubarb. I enjoy the way this brew smells but that is where my enjoyment ends.

The taste is sour like unripe raspberry and rhubarb with a bit of herbal character. Some minerals and a touch of neutral oak. A soft hint of oak and increasinglu warming/distracting alcohol in the finish.

This is medium in body with modest carbonation. Its not terrible....if your serving size is a tablespoon. It is still vibrant with fruit addition but yikes is it sour and the alcohol feel doesnt help matters.

L - Pours an almost clear ruby red and the tan head dissipates quickly.

S - Juicy jammy flavors up front, some oak & light acidity.

T - A raspberry & rhubarb tartness with some acidity. Really simple, but delivers.

F - Medium bodied & low carbonation. Dry finish, very puckering.

O - Nice fruit character with a tart acidic backdrop. Really liking it.
