Comes out a clear deep burgundy under a one finger tan head with excellent retention and sheets of lace. Roasted malt is the main ingredient in the fairly mild nose. The mouth is mildly carbonated and quite thick, but not sticky - it is quite clean on the swallow. This brew is mild, but a very tasty rendition of the style, with the requisite roasted malt, a bit of plum and a subdued espresso bitter that lasts long after the liquid is gone. There's a slightly sour tone, but it complements the smoke and bitter well, rather than detracting from it. This is a very nice, quite quaffable winter warmer.
