i really like these guys, clever beers always it seems. this has good coffee in it, stays light on the vanilla and the lactose, and unlike many in this style space is crisp and drinkable, even refreshing still, i like them going easy on the dessert aspects and leaning into this being really good core cream ale and letting the coffee do the majority of the flavoring. insanely light in color, doesnt show coffee at all, blonde and sunny and bright for what it is, with excellent carbonation the whole way, aiding in the refreshment factor. the coffee has a nutty nose, almond to me, not too deeply roasted and without acidity or bitterness at all in aroma or in the taste, smooth and with some cocoa powder character as it warms, neat with the malt, which i found flavorful for the style, almost a european pils thing to it, some earthiness which the coffee loves. the vanilla is up front in the nose but all on the swallow in the flavor, natural and in service of the coffee, and the lactose is more about body for me than residual sweetness, although this does stay off from fully dry. light hazelnut and toased bread as it warms, some richness in the center, but also still crisp to me, big bubbles make it airy, and the coffee is fresh and high quality. really nice recipe and execution once again from imbib! flavored beer that is still beery!
