easily my least favorite of the beers we had in here, frankly one of the only ones that wasnt incredible. it seems a little thin and simple for the style, and the alcohol is exposed, its also really sweet, so its a lot even though it looks and feels a little lighter than expected. amber color, not particularly viscous, and very short headed, looks a little dim. the nose on it is brown sugar and toffee, less german than i thought it might be, and not as obviously a lager either despite what feels in texture like proper conditioning. its all a bit muted and simple, light birch wood and maple syrup, long boiled concentrated baked grain richness, slightly earthy and autumnal. the flavor follows but the sugars and the alcohol dominate this, and it kind of feels like its missing something, some oak, a more robustly german element. it warms okay, lots of booze but faint raisin and fruit leather now too, maybe a little more breadiness from the yeast, some minerals underneath. its fine beer, well enough made and all, but seems pedestrian next to their rum barrel aged maibock, which blew us away. lacking a bit in carbonation, staying on the palate awhile, and packing a spicy alcohol punch. unremarkable amongst so much incredible beer in this special place.
