Had this at BeerNV during the Fremont tap takeover. Rough crowd to be up against, but a good time before the Alabama show in Lake Tahoe, Summer 2022.
Pours dark brown, almost black. I wish I would have written down the abv. The aroma was probably the best part of the beer, old standbyes of oak, sweet whiskey notes, barley, toffee, caramel, very dark fruit. Doesn't seem hoppy, so I went with English barleywine I think.
The taste and mouth feel definitely pushed a double digit hot abv sensation. I also began to wonder if it was an American barleywine, as the bitterness was pretty substantial, gone were the notes in the aroma, replaced with a more harsh world. And let me tell you, I like bitterness, I like American Barleywines, I like Bigfoot. But here, the combination of booziness, whiskey and bitterness wasn't happening for me. Yes, some of those sweeter barleywines and beers from Fremont the same day did this one no favors. Sucks for you. Still trying to do better, be nice, but man its a battle and when you feel like you got wronged again, it can come back out in negative ways. Ugh.
