another wonderful wild ale from these guys, this one a rustic saison with spelt at its core, but its aged on blueberries and boysenberries and its the fruit that really defines it for me, super complex, vinous, and mature. i love the color, a vibrant deep pink shade with jewel tone shine and clarity until the bottom couple of inches of the bottle. it holds a half inch of puffy white head, and looks awesome overall in the glass. the aroma of this is nice too, tangy and tannic from the berries, blueberries ahead of boysenberries to me, some sweetness, some acidity, but lots of funk, definite white wine character from the barrel aging, woody, bretty, kind of exotic to me, like this mix of yeasts is uncommon, i really like it, mouthwatering the whole way. the flavor is a lot like the nose, gritty astringent blueberries, jammy sweeter boysenberries, with some neat funkiness and not as sour as it smells, cool minerality, early, almost a beet note to it, red and white wine nuances both, and some lemony pucker on the swallow. not sure i get a ton of spelt from this, or grain at all for that matter, this is really fruit driven and feels pretty light on the palate overall, but i think on the whole the build here is excellent, the yeast complexity makes it, and the fruit is authentic, bold, and pure to me. this series has been really special from the ones ive had, i think its crazy how under the radar these guys are for how good all their stuff is, especially these wild ones. this was a standout for me from a very beery evening!
