amazing little bottle of beer here, this series, in my experience, has been truly epic, and i am disappointed the place didnt make it and this could be my last beer from it, a shame, some really special stuff. this is a golden sour base beer, done with dried elderberries and pomegranate arils, which i had to google to learn is the term for the little red jewel seeds, awesome! its aged in wine barrels and indeed very vinous overall, a little age on this bottle now too obviously with their closure happening quite awhile back. gorgeous fuchsia pink to almost red wine colored brew, short head after the initial pour, fast popping and dissipating fizz, light shine, a bit more haziness as i work toward the bottom of the bottle, plenty of carbonation, really unique tone to this. the nose is awesome, immediately pretty dark sour, bacterial and drying its so sharp, high intensity, lactic, a sort of flemish beer thing to it, that fruit vinegar complexion, some funk and oak together too, and then all the fruit, which hits with the mouthwatering function of this, red wine grapes, the medicinal elderberry aspect, cool that they were dried, seems concentrated and intense, recognizable even with everything else going on, some natural pomegranate tang and juiciness too, light sweetness, definitely summery, kids drink adjacent, very fruit punch to me, lovely overall, mature and complex, still fermentation forward, but very fruit driven too. the flavor is wonderful, i think a cool combination of fruit, uncommon both of them are in beer, and they play well together and make this unique for sure, still heavy red wine and medicinal fruit astringency from the elderberry, a hint of cherry, some light sweetness from the pomegranate which is welcome with all this sourness, some smoothing and soothing oak, light vanilla there, high tannin, light bodied and not super grainy to me, sour enough that i am glad i am sharing the bottle, but also flavorful enough and so delicious that i kind of wish i wasnt. love the fruits and how they mix, so smart. these guys will be missed, they are already. loved this.
