Poured into a snifter at The Hill Station Pub in Hanoi.

A: This beer is a pure opaque brown with 1 finger tan head on top

S: Light coconut rum sweetness and bready malt over dark chocolate like a boozy Mounds bar.

T: Smooth with surprisingly large amount of coconut flavor. Tropical and chocolatey at the same time.

Overall: I'm in love and I could drink this like a candy bar. A bit heavy but oh-so-smooth.

6.90% ABV. Brewed with fresh coconut from Ben Tre in addition to roasted malts.

On-draught @ Pasteur Street. 400ml pour for 95000 VND.

Gorgeous toasted coconut flavour; this is about as authentic as coconut flavour gets, and the toasted character is as evocative as it comes. The porter shell the coconut comes packaged in is uninteresting - the dark malts, cream, chocolate malt, and buried roast merely a delivery mechanism for the dominant coconut.

Here's a beer that commits to its flavours, that champions local ingredients without going overboard into hipster territory (e.g., see Jester King's press releases).

Mouthfeel is a bit overcarbonated and could be softer, but otherwise it's right on the money - smooth, wet, medium-bodied. Unrefreshing (to style).

I love that it never comes off too tropical; the coconut is there but its obvious toasty taste keeps it in line with the roasty vibe of a good porter.

Good drinkable stuff, and a beer I keep coming back to in Vietnam. There's room for improvement (I think we'd all like to see Pasteur Street start playing with Vietnamese coffee), but aside from Pasteur Street's gose and maybe a couple other uncommon brews here and there, this is as good as it gets in Vietnam (if not the entire region of Southeast Asia).
