Towerhill Brewery "Bourbon Stout"
on tap at the brewery on 9 April 2016
"A stout infused with bourbon and oak...". Well I'm not sure how legal that is, but I like it! The Bourbon is clear, but it's not too much Bourbon. It's got a very good, solid malt backing so it holds up, leaving just a touch of the Bourbon flavor and a spritz of alcohol coming through. There's a touch of apple-like fruitiness to it as well, and that also adds to the Bourbon and oak in the mix, lending it a reminiscent note of Laird's Applejack. The roastiness of the stout is not too aggressive either but it does have somewhat of an acidic dark malt edge which helps to liven it. Overall I'd call it balanced, moderately complex, and dry and roasty with a flicker of heat in the finish. Very nicely done, and certainly worth trying.

Got better as it warmed. But still was thinner than I prefer and lacking complexity. Heavy chocolate is really what I was taking out of this.
