Towerhill Brewery "Hop Secret #2"
on tap at the brewery on 9 April 2016
Notes: Mostly clear deep brass/copper beneath a frothy-then-creamy head of white. Excellent head retention and lacing (!). The aroma is sweetish and fruity (but not citrusy, more like apple/pear and berries/red fruit) with golden caramel and a hint of pine and grass in the background. The flavor follows suit, and although it's got a solid bitterness to it the sweetness remains, not exactly throwing it off-balance, but certainly leaning towards sweetness. Probably due to the alcohol, it dries in the finish, although you don't really get "alcohol", and you're left ready for another sip. It's nice to see an IPA that's not bombastic, but at the same time with a name like "Hop Secret" I was expecting a little more. Certainly worth trying.
