.5 litre CAN served into a mason jar in Kuopio, Finland. Brief impressions below:
A: Off-white colour head. Decent creaminess and thickness. Foamy and frothy. Retention is great for the high ABV - ~9 minutes.
Body colour is a clear copper of average vibrance.
Looks pretty standard for a strong lager, though the head retention is superb.
Sm: Biscuit malt, buttery diacetyl, barley, booze, malt syrup/malt extract, and some floral & grassy hop character of minimal presence.
Aromatic intensity is average.
The syrupy notes are off-putting, as is the diacetyl. Not an inviting aroma. Suggests a cheap low quality brew with a saccharine taste.
T/Mf: Diacetyl dominates, with off-putting cheap malt syrups and cloying malt extract filling it out. Overbearingly full-bodied, with a sticky artificial feel on the palate. Smooth and wet. Far too sweet. Overcarbonated.
Hop presence is minimal. There's no detectable yeast.
Borders on medicinal. And it's pretty boozy. Not liking this one much at all.
As imbalanced as it is shallow, this beer has nothing to offer the discerning drinker. There's no harmony of texture and taste.
O: A lackluster cheap brew intended for getting its drinker inebriated. This is one Hartwall offering that can safely be skipped. But it's not undrinkable, boozy though it may be.
D- (1.9) / AVOID
