A dense stout that is very smooth tasting. Strong bourbon flavor from soaking of oak chips during fermentation. Good background flavors of chocolate. Locally sourced honey is used as well.

Name has been changed to "Bullpen Burbon Stout" ~7.5% ABV 62 IBU's 67 SRM
A super dense flavored American Stout that balances a strong herbal, spicy hop presence with lots of woody, chocolate, charred characteristics from the dark roasted malt. Oak chips soaked in Kentucky Bourbon and five pounds of local mesquite honey are added during the secondary fermentation to really give a good "punch" on the mouth feel.
I would love to see an all mesquite wood batch or a batch of Imperial Bullpen Bourbon Stout!
We may be still a ways out on a nitro system (I am a HUGE fan, don't worry it will come) just increase that "silky" mouth feel x10! Still an amazing beer really in part to Camp Verdes' REALLY hard water and lots of LOVE!
Cheers!

Poured a deep brown, almost black body, with one finger of thick tan head. Overall impression of appearance is of a very nice stout. Scents of roast malt, black coffee and bittersweet chocolate mingle with sweet aromas of honey and milk chocolate with an excellent aroma of bourbon, oak and vanilla in the foreground. Overall impression of aroma is of a very nice stout that seems to be barrel-aged in some capacity given the bourbon aromas. This mingles with the standard stout aromas to create a very nice overall bouquet. Flavor begins lightly sweet with bitter roasted malt undertones adding balance, along with flavors of bittersweet chocolate, coffee with cream and light honey sweetness. Middle continues these flavors picking up in intensity of roasted malt and adding a faint hint of bourbon. Finish is lightly dry with a pronounced character of roast malt mingling with flavors of bourbon, light oak, dark roast coffee and bitter dark chocolate with a light honey sweetness adding balance. Aftertaste is dry with notes of roasted malt imparting a smokey flavor. Overall impression of flavor is of a very nice stout, one that has a wealth of flavors of display adding a depth of character that is quite appealing. Mouthfeel is medium-full bodied with moderate carbonation, beginning smooth and creamy and finishing chalky. Overall impression of mouthfeel is of a good stout, one brewed with hard water like in Yorkshire. Overall this is an excellent stout. It hits the flavor and aroma of the style perfectly and the bourbon notes add a nice depth. I am not certain if it was barrel-aged, as it is slightly different from most barrel-aged stouts in mouthfeel, but bourbon barrel character was added somehow and elevates this beer from a good stout to an amazing one.
