The brewery openly admits that this is an ale brewed in the style of an Oktoberfest lager; what that means is that this beer is missing that clean, crispness of a good Oktoberfest--too much in the way of fruity esters here. But that issue aside, the Monk Marzen pretty much nails it: spicy, caramel, herbal, creamy. A very nice--if not totally faithful--mimicry of the style.

Another TM seasonal - on tap only. This beer is a lovely clear copper with a minimal head that quickly recedes to the edges of the glass. The nose is faint biscuit and malt, perhaps my only complaint about this beer. Otherwise the taste and feel are absolutely on point. This is a quaffable brew, best suited to large steins. Prost!
