I should preface this with a disclaimer. I drink a lot of Pesky Pig, the base brew for Sow Pow. It is my go- to for growler fills and taproom pints. I was equally excited and nervous about turning my favorite Alberta beer into a double. Thankfully, TM hit a ground rule “double” with this one. This beer pours a nice copper, with a head that disappears quickly. I’ve enjoyed it on tap and in cans - both share a nice citrus burst to n the nose. The flavor profile includes the base malt, lots of grapefruit, and retains a slightly sweet yet evergreen finish. The extra booziness is well masked, which makes this a dangerous thing to consume in quantity. Another seasonal success for my hometown brewery!

355ml can - glad to see one of my favourite Alberta craft brewers releasing my favourite style!
This beer pours a clear, medium copper amber colour, with four fingers of puffy, finely foamy, and somewhat creamy off-white head, which leaves a bit of splotchy lace around the glass as it rather slowly dissipates.
It smells of orange and red grapefruit flesh, a further muddled tropical fruitiness, bready and doughy caramel malt, and some leafy, weedy, and piney green hop bitters. The taste is big orange, grapefruit, and lemon rind, grainy and crackery pale malt, a lesser caramel sweetness, still indistinct exotic fruity notes, and more herbal, piney, and gently lit-up floral verdant hoppiness.
The carbonation is fairly active in its palate-supporting frothiness, the body a decent middleweight, and generally smooth, with just a touch of fruit acridity maybe exacting a minor tithe here. It finishes off-dry, as the put-upon malt deals with some heady lingering fruity esters.
Overall - Troubled Monk did a bang-up job with their Wicked Smaht a little while back, and now they've switched focus to the other American IPA nexus with this offering. Yup, citrusy and green, with a more or less well-integrated 9 points of the ol' boozy-booze, this is West Coast all the way.
