Pours a remarkably dark red/amber, bordering on brown. To the point that I thought I had grabbed the growler of porter instead of the double IPA. Over this towers an off white head that recedes in it's time leaving a sticky string of lacing and settling into a strong rim of dense foam.
Nose is dominated by caramel malt and minty herbals. Soft stone fruit notes and moist forest soil as well. Pleasant enough but not overwhelming.
The taste is malty sweet with pleasant herbal tinges around the edge, floral notes, hints of pear, and a slight woodiness in the mix as well. A bit too sweet for my tastes
Mouthfeel is nice and full without sacraficing a crisp finish
Overall it's a pleasant enough beer and hides it's strength well. Very strongly in the british IPA camp with a strong malt backbone and hops that emphasize floral/earthy/herbal flavors over the piney/citrus/tropical fruits that are more common today. Not bad, not my favorite.
