Note via stream of consciousness: A rough pour brings up a thumb's width of tan foam atop a hazy dark chestnut body. Golden highlights appear at the base of the glass when held to the light. There's clear Beechwood smoke in the aroma. It's sweetish, floral, and lightly smoky. On to the taste... the smoke is fuller but mild, and it also remains floral and sweetish with a grainy and lightly caramelish maltiness. It's really nicely balanced to a point where the smoke is clear but also allows the other components of the beer to shine. If I had to guess I'd say that the Beechwood smoked malt probably makes up around 5 to 8% of the grain bill. A moderate bitterness brings it to a dry conclusion with some smokiness and a bit of grassiness lingering. In the mouth it's medium bodied and gently crisp. The head held up better than average and there's some lacing about the glass but it's really not that great. All in all I find this to be a very drinkable rauchbier that delivers on all counts except for the head retention and lacing.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
